What it does well

• Low volume means less air to displace when clearing, which matters every time water gets in and matters a lot when you are practising mask removal.
• A frameless build puts the skirt closer to your face, which usually means a wider field of view and less bulk.
• A single lens gives an uninterrupted view with no centre bridge, which most divers prefer once they have tried both.
• Folding flat is a genuine travel benefit. A mask that packs into a wetsuit boot rather than needing a box saves real space.

Where it falls short

• Fit is everything and it is personal. A frameless low-volume mask sits differently from a framed one, and a face that seals well in one may not in the other. Try it on if you can, and if you cannot, be prepared to send it back.
• Single lens masks cannot take prescription lenses as easily as dual lens masks, which often accept off-the-shelf corrective inserts. If you need correction, that is a strong argument for a dual lens design.
• Frameless masks are more prone to skirt damage if crushed, since there is no rigid frame protecting the silicone.
• New masks need the manufacturing film removed from the inside of the lens or they will fog no matter what you put on them. That is a preparation step, not a defect.
• A soft skirt is comfortable and a soft skirt over a moustache still leaks. Facial hair on the upper lip is the most common cause of a leaking mask and no mask design solves it.
