Console Gauge vs Wrist Computer (2026)

You need to know your gas pressure and you need to know your depth and time. A console puts the pressure gauge and often a depth gauge on a hose; a wrist computer puts depth, time and decompression status where you can glance at it. Most divers carry both, and a wrist computer plus an SPG is the common modern setup.

What is a no-decompression limit?

The time you can stay at a depth and still ascend directly, within your computer's algorithm. Exceeding it commits you to decompression stops, which recreational training does not prepare most divers for.

Should I still learn tables?

Understanding the principles helps you know what your computer is doing and why it is conservative. Most agencies now teach computer use as primary.
